The guardrail system's simple cantilevered design provides permanent edge protection without the need to mechanically fix the system through the roofing membrane or building's structure.
This simple design provides unrivalled strength, stability and safety and overcomes the problem of the roof having to drill and puncture the roof membrane which can lead to potential water damage and noise disturbance during installation.
System 2000 guardrail consists of galvanised tubing joined together using the "Safeclamp" method of connection. The vertical leg has been specially designed so that the foot base can be raised or lowered allowing the system to be levelled during installation. This sliding base design also means that future re-roofing work can be easily undertaken without the need to dismantle the system. Fluted rubber matting has been bonded to the underside of all components which come into contact with the roof membrane to prevent any damage to the membrane. This also has the additional benefit of adding to the frictional resistance of the system to prevent any movement.

Your Home is your Castle, cheaper isn’t always better Your home is one of the most expensive and important things that you can own so risking any building work to unregistered contractors, simply because it is the cheaper option, is false economy.
they can leave your roof unsafe or unfit for purpose, and there is no comeback if you inadvertently hire a cowboy builder if you hire a cowboy builder you could also invalidate your building insurance they don’t provide warranties or insurance when things go wrong they can’t provide Building Regulation Compliance Certificates needed by solicitors when you come to sell your home cowboy builders won’t inform you about legal requirements such as the need for adequate insulation. Another thing you won’t be made aware of is that you, as the homeowner, are liable to pay a hefty fine for failing to notify the local council when major works are being undertaken on your home, including roof refurbishment work. Local authorities require notification of any roofing refurbishment work which involves over 50% of the roof being repaired or refurbished; this is separate from planning permission.
The easiest and safest option is using CompetentRoofer, a Government-authorised Competent Person Scheme that allows roofers to self-certify their own work, meaning: -
you don’t have the hassle of notifying you have the added reassurance that the contractor has already been vetted prior to becoming a member and will continue to have their work checked you will automatically receive a free ten year insurance-backed warranty, which includes breach of Building Regulations and contractor insolvency.

Within a day of the roofers visit the roof began to leak she phoned us to come and have a look and quote for the dormer roof.
The photo below shows exactly why the roof started to leak a tile had been removed allowing rainwater to pour in.
The flat roof was fine and will probably last several years.

According to EasyTrim Roofing and Construction Products, although ridge kits have been available for a long time, products that claimed to be universal and fit any roof tile type were in fact not. This led the company’s MD to design a truly universal ridge system to support every tile and provide long-term durability.
EasyTrim says this was proven by a customer visit in October. The customer wanted evidence that this product worked and therefore he trialled the new product on every tile in his yard and it was evident that it worked.
EasyTrim said: “The product has been trialled and tested against others on the market and is absolutely the only universal ridge system available.”
A roofing firm has been fined £10,000 after a worker was spotted balancing dangerously on a house roof.
THIS ASTONISHING picture of a worker balancing on tiles landed a roofing firm with a £10,000 fine.
The prosecution was brought by the Health and Safety Executive following a routine inspection.
The companywas found guilty of breaching safety regulations relating to working at height.
The firm was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £7,269.
HSE Inspector John Ellis said:"It's incredible that workers were expected to power wash a roof while standing on it, without any scaffolding or edge protection to stop them falling.
"Working on a roof without safety precautions is dangerous enough, but the risk of falling was increased by the fact that moss and other detritus were being washed off the roof.
"One slip and the worker would have fallen to the ground, resulting in him being seriously injured or killed. UK. Roofing firms should therefore ensure they have safe systems of work in place to protect their employees and others."
One of CompetentRoofer’s aims is to help stamp out ‘cowboy’ roofers and, as part of its scheme, a hot-line is provided for CompetentRoofer members to inform us of property owners or companies who are failing to comply with Building Regulations. The information provided will then be passed on, strictly confidentially, to the correct Local Authority Building Control office for them to pursue.
The hot-line can also be used to inform us as mentioned above of companies falsely claiming accreditation with CompetentRoofer.

WINTERS COMING NOW IS THE TIME TO HAVE YOUR GUTTERS CLEARED
Why have your gutters cleared?
It is recommended by the Building Research Establishment that gutters are inspected/cleared at least once a year. Ignoring a problem will only result in it getting worse (it won't repair itself!) and possibly causing serious damage to the property.
We can also clean fascias, soffits and gutters so that they come up like new in most cases. This is very popular with those of you that have white gutters as this shows up the dirt much more than other colours.
What causes a blocked gutter?
Every year leaves, moss, lichen, gravel from flat roofs, dead birds, old tennis balls, bird droppings, and what can only be described as "stinky sludge" gets washed off the roof into our gutters. This can build up at an alarming rate and can cause damage to the guttering itself or to your property. Many of our customers have been amazed at what we've found in their gutters when we have carried out clearances, some examples of which are shown below:
Damage caused by blocked or sagging gutters.
Trapped water in a gutter gets blown by the wind onto fascia boards creating a continuous wet/dry cycle. This can cause wood rot and/or peeling paint, ultimately requiring complete replacement of the whole system if left unchecked. In extreme cases the rot can penetrate the eves, causing even more serious and expensive damage.
A blocked gutter that overflows when it rains results in water pouring down the wall. This is precisely what gutters are designed to protect against, and can cause damage to brickwork and pointing, penetrating damp and damage to wall ties. Moss can also grow on the wet walls adding to the problem by retaining water and not letting the walls dry out at all as seen in the example below:
Roof Tile Cutting Methods Revised to Control Silica Dust From 1st October 2012, roofers will no longer have the option of using a cut-off saw to dry cut roof tiles. According to the HSE, contractors undertaking dry cutting after 01 October are likely to be in 'material breach' and thus be cost recoverable under Fee For Intervention.
In a bid to reduce the risks from silica dust, industry has supported changes to working methods by specifying that water suppression should be used in addition to the correct RPE. Contractors will have the option of using other methods as long as they can “demonstrate these are equally as effective at controlling the silica risk”.With Hytile No Need for Water Suppression and RPE Using the Hytile Tilecutter virtually eliminates exposure to the life-threatening silica dust. There is no need for protective measures whatsoever. Furthermore, using the Hytile Tilecutter means cutting tiles with absolutely no worries. Not only will you meet all health and safety regulations, but you will also save money at the same time.
Surrey based roofing supply and contractor company Tradecall Roofing Supplies has
been appointed Surrey area distributor & approved applicator for high tech Gaco
roof coating for flat & low pitched roofs, Finlock guttering etc.
as Gaco, a 100% Silicone Roof Coating, the bonds tightly, is applied by roller
to form a completely seamless, waterproof membrane & is now available to home
owners in Surrey and surrounding areas.
Managing Director, Dave Doolan, said “Gaco is ideal for our wet UK climate. It
has been developed by 55 year old Gaco Western Corp in rainy Seattle USA several
years ago to cater for the on-going global problem of leaking flat roofs. Being
contractors since 1973 we’ve seen many roofing products come and go but this is
one of the best we’ve come across so far”
is unique in that being 100% silicone, it is guaranteed to be impenetrable by
water, even under permanently ponding water on a flat roof.
it remains flexible, it is ideal for a wide range of temperatures anywhere
between -50c up to +50c without degradation & comes with a 50 year limited
factory guarantee. Gaco can be applied to most clean dry, weathered roofs in
temperatures ranging from 0c up to 50c.
coating, suitable for most flat or low pitch roof surfaces including felt,
asphalt, concrete, Finlock concrete guttering, steel, asbestos & plywood is
applied as a two-coat process and is available in two shades, grey and white.
grey is normally applied first with the white applied as the finish coat. This
two-coat /colour process ensures that the right thickness of coating is
to Mr Doolan, a huge advantage of this product is that the white finish, unlike
regular reflective roof paint which lasts a year or two, is a one - time only lifetime
application, that reflects away over 80 per cent of UV light and the sun’s heat
from the roof surface. This means that even on a hot day, roof surfaces etc coated
with white Gaco will remain cool to the touch!
a rare event… when the sun does shine, it causes the roof to expand loosening
joints, seams etc. a problem compounded when frost comes along because trapped
moisture forces additional stresses on those joints, seams etc. These expansion
/ contraction movements are the main reason we get problems on flat roof and
when those stresses / movement are prevented by Gaco’s reflective properties,
that damage is completely prevented.
added, “The reflection of heat away from the roof also makes the building
underneath more comfortable in warmer weather, thereby avoiding need for
cooling fans or other air conditioning”.
benefit claimed is because the coating material is made from silicone it
resists the accumulation of dirt and growth of mosses, meaning roof stays clean
on your skill levels of skills & following safe working
practices” Mr Doolan added “it can be self-applied, or our trained, fully
insured operatives can apply it for you.”
is available in two colours, grey & reflective white, & the material,
which requires two coats on flat roofs costing around £25 per square meter applied
or £13 per square meter self-applied making it a highly cost effective
alternative to other traditional methods” says Doolan. Finlock guttering can be
fully refurbished with Gaco for £55 per linear meter.

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Ltd, the UK’s oldest roofing trade association, has been receiving an unprecedented number of calls from members of the public, who have been approached about moss removal, which is usually followed up with the tiles being painted in order, so it is claimed, to prolong the life of the roof.
While NFRC is a dedicated roofing trade association that has been around for over 120 years we have never recognised the practice of moss removal or roof painting as a true roofing discipline. The reason being, in most instances, moss on roof tiles is rarely a problem and only needs to be removed if it is blocking gutters, outlets and other drainage points on the roof. Most ‘techniques’ that we have come across to remove moss, are often achieved by ‘violent’ means such as power-washing, which may cause damage to the roof, especially when combined with unnecessary foot traffic often leading to cracked or broken roof tiles.
The removal of the moss is often followed up by painting the roof tiles. There are claims that this can increase the thermal efficiency of roofs as well as extending the life of the roof tiles, but unless the products carry credible UK based, third party accreditation we would urge members of the public to view any claims with extreme caution.
Our advice, therefore, to property owners who are concerned about the condition of their roof is to contact a reputable roofing contractor for a proper assessment and, if necessary, to obtain at least three quotes for any works, using conventional roofing methods.
Tradecall Roofing are approved contractors to MossGo a very simple moss removal system which will not in any way damage your roof .
The Mossgo Roof Treatment System is non-aggressive in nature. It comprises of the chemical and the equipment needed to deliver it effectively and safely onto the roof.
It has been developed and adapted to suit weather conditions prevailing in the British Isles and Ireland.
The active ingredient of MossGo Pro is a quaternary ammonium. It does not affect any known material used in construction. It has a rapid breakdown rate after use, leaving residues absorbed by bacteria. MossGo Pro is a spray once product. It leaves no smear. The layer hosting microbes, algae and its symbiotic partners – in moss and lichen – dies within a few hours.
